Artemis 1 is a planned crew-less test flight for NASA's Artemis program. It is the first flight of the agency's Space Launch System (SLS) super heavy lift launch vehicle and the first flight of the Orion MPCV. Artemis 1 is expected to be launched between 29 August and 5 September 2022
Originally known as Exploration Mission-1 or EM-1 until the introduction of the Artemis program in 2019, when it was renamed is the second planned flight of the crew-less Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle to be launched on the first flight of the Space Launch System.
The Orion spacecraft will spend approximately 3 weeks in space, including 6 days in a retrograde orbit around the Moon. It is planned to be followed by Artemis 2 in 2023.
