Twenty-first Columbia flight.

Two satellites, the Wake Shield Facility (WSF) and the Retrievable Far and Extreme Ultraviolet Spectrograph-Shuttle Pallet Satellite II (OREFEUS-SPAS) were both deployed and retrieved on this flight.

The WSF was flown to test the growth of thinn semi-conductor films for advanced electronics.

The ORFEUS-SPAS II will observe the evolution of stars, structure of galaxies and the nature of interstellar mediums.

The astronauts tested a variety of tools and instruments for future station operations.

Landed December 7, 1996 at Kennedy Space Center, FL.

Mission Duration: 423 hours 53 minutes 18 seconds.
