LM-7 Apollo 13

Design № 174317

Lunar Module LM-7 was flown with the call sign "Aquarious" on the ill-fated Apollo 13 mission in April 1970. Planned as the third crewed landing on the moon, an explosion in an oxygen tank on the outward trip turned the mission into a fight for survival in which the Lunar Module would play a vital role. After transferring to the LM to preserve the Command Module's batteries for the re-entry, the crew used the LM's descent engine to bring them around the moon and back to Earth. Prior to re-entry the crew transferred back to the CM and the Lunar Module was jettisoned to burn up in the atmosphere over the Pacific Ocean.
