Mir 24 covers the time between the departure of the Russian Mir 23 crewmembers Vasili Tsibliev and Aleksandr Lazutkin and the departure of Mir 24 crew members Anatoly Solovyev and Pavel Vinogradov. American Astronaut Mike Foale spanned portions of both those Mir missions. With the arrival of Space Shuttle Atlantis in late September, Dave Wolf changed places with Mike Foale for the sixth increment of continuous U.S. presence on board the Mir.
