 Challenger Exhibit Commemorative

This design is an update of the Challenger tribute patch I created for the 30th Anniversary of the tragedy. I depict the orbiter in orbit because the mission to educate future generations survived the tragedy thanks to the Challenger Learning Centers established by the families of the STS-51L crew.

The ‘flame of knowledge’, the symbol for the “Teacher in Space” program, honors Christa McAuliffe.

Halley’s Comet is included, shown as it was in the original crew patch. The Tracking and Data Relay Satellite,(both the first and last payload carried by Challenger) is depicted. In the top right a Spacelab mission is depicted. Arguably the most dramatic spacewalk in the shuttle program - the untethered EVA during STS-41B in 1984 is illustrated.
The ten stars represent every Challenger mission.

Each patch has a gold rope inner border because each Shuttle Orbiter was named after Naval research vessels.

In the border is a quote by President Ronald Reagan during his address to the nation.
“The future doesn’t belong to the fainthearted, it belongs to the brave.”
