Artemis New Era

Design № 446947

"This patch was inspired by a photo I took in late March of the Artemis 1 SLS on the pad from the road to the Canaveral National Seashore. My POV was NW of LC39B.

In creating this patch with Dr. Jorge Cartes, I wanted to imagine the scene at dawn. The waning crescent Moon is in the sky, the Sun is just breaking the horizon. To be more attractive and powerful I enhanced the morning colors. The "Artemis" figure from my previous commemorative is ghost stitched into the background, aiming her arrow towards the Moon - the destination of Artemis 1.

Fifty years ago I had a similar POV from just southeast of LC39A when Apollo 17 was poised for launch. Witnessing the launch of our last Moon rocket put me on my career path. I dedicate this patch to the young professionals "The Artemis Generation" who will make this happen and two my grandsons generation who will one day see us fly to Mars. I hope they are as inspired by Artemis as I was with Apollo."
